What this reading explores

Human Design is a modern self-inquiry system that combines several symbolic traditions. This reading explores Type and Strategy, Authority, Profile and Definition, followed by the nine defined or undefined centers, named channels, activated gates and a keyed Incarnation Cross interpretation. Practical experiments are offered for observation, not as rules that replace your judgement.

  • Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile and Definition
  • Defined and undefined guidance for all nine centers
  • Named channels and activated gates from the calculated bodygraph
  • A keyed Incarnation Cross and three Type-specific practices

What Human Design is

Human Design is a modern self-inquiry system created in the late twentieth century. It combines an astrology-based planetary calculation with concepts drawn from the I Ching, the chakra system and other symbolic traditions.

A bodygraph is calculated from birth date, exact time and place, plus a second design calculation. The result maps Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, Definition, nine Centers, Channels, Gates and an Incarnation Cross. It is an interpretive system, not established medical or psychological science.

The five Types

Type is the broadest layer of the bodygraph. Strategy describes the experiment associated with each Type, while the signature and not-self theme are used as feedback rather than moral judgement.

Generator

Respond

Consistent sacral energy; satisfaction is associated with correct engagement and frustration with forcing.

Manifesting Generator

Respond, then inform

A fast, non-linear Generator expression that benefits from response before acceleration.

Projector

Wait for recognition

Designed to guide and see systems; pacing and the right invitations are emphasized.

Manifestor

Inform before acting

An initiating Type whose impact is easier to receive when others are informed.

Reflector

Wait a lunar cycle

No defined Centers; environment, timing and a full lunar perspective are emphasized.

The seven Authorities

Authority is the decision process associated with the bodygraph. It is read in a hierarchy: the first applicable Authority in the chart takes precedence.

Solar Plexus

Emotional Authority

Allow the emotional wave to move; clarity is not expected in the first moment.

Sacral

Sacral Authority

Notice the immediate bodily response to what is present and specific.

Spleen

Splenic Authority

A quiet, present-moment instinct that may speak only once.

Heart

Ego Authority

Decisions are considered through genuine will, desire and available commitment.

G Center

Self-Projected Authority

Direction becomes clearer while speaking and hearing one’s own voice.

Throat

Mental / Environmental Authority

Projectors use trusted sounding boards and supportive environments rather than inner certainty.

Lunar

Lunar Authority

Reflectors are encouraged to observe a full lunar cycle for major decisions.

The twelve Profiles

Profile combines one conscious line and one unconscious line. It describes a recurring style of learning, relating and being seen rather than a job title or fixed personality category.

1/3

Investigator / Martyr

Builds foundations through research, trial and direct discovery.

1/4

Investigator / Opportunist

Develops secure knowledge and shares it through trusted networks.

2/4

Hermit / Opportunist

Natural talent develops in retreat and is called out by relationships.

2/5

Hermit / Heretic

Needs privacy while carrying projections of practical leadership.

3/5

Martyr / Heretic

Tests reality and turns experience into practical solutions.

3/6

Martyr / Role Model

Learns experimentally, then grows toward perspective and example.

4/6

Opportunist / Role Model

Influence travels through relationships and matures into lived example.

4/1

Opportunist / Investigator

A fixed foundation supports influence within a close network.

5/1

Heretic / Investigator

Practical problem-solving rests on careful investigation.

5/2

Heretic / Hermit

Projected leadership alternates with a strong need for retreat.

6/2

Role Model / Hermit

Life perspective matures through phases, distance and natural talent.

6/3

Role Model / Martyr

Experiment and observation gradually become embodied wisdom.

The nine Centers

Defined Centers are described as relatively consistent themes. Undefined Centers are more variable and may amplify context or other people. Undefined does not mean broken; it is treated as an area of sensitivity, learning and potential wisdom.

Head

Inspiration

Questions, mental pressure and the impulse to make sense.

Ajna

Conceptualization

Patterns, opinions and ways of organizing thought.

Throat

Expression

Communication, action and bringing something into form.

G

Identity and direction

Love, orientation and the experience of self.

Heart / Ego

Will

Commitment, value, promises and material drive.

Solar Plexus

Emotion

Emotional awareness, waves, desire and relational sensitivity.

Sacral

Life-force

Sustainable work energy, sexuality and bodily response.

Spleen

Instinct

Present-moment awareness, survival and intuitive sensitivity.

Root

Pressure and momentum

Stress, drive, timing and the push to begin or complete.

Human Design and other systems

Human Design differs from personality questionnaires because its categories are calculated from birth data rather than chosen answers. It also differs from predictive astrology: its central focus is decision process, energetic consistency and observation in daily life.

Comparing systems can be useful, but their terms should not be treated as interchangeable. A Human Design Type is not an MBTI type, and a Center is not simply a chakra renamed.

How to read a bodygraph

The bodygraph uses black activations for the conscious personality calculation and red activations for the unconscious design calculation. Colored Centers are defined; white Centers are undefined. A full Channel connects two Gates and defines the Centers at both ends.

Black

Personality / conscious

Activations from the birth moment that may be easier to recognize in oneself.

Red

Design / unconscious

Activations from the design calculation that may be more visible to others.

Colored

Defined Center

A theme described as relatively stable and consistently available.

White

Undefined Center

A variable, receptive area shaped more strongly by context.

Channels and gates

The bodygraph contains 64 Gates corresponding symbolically to the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Two Gates at opposite ends of a pathway form a Channel when both are activated.

Channels are grouped into collective, tribal and individual circuitry. A single activated Gate without its partner is sometimes called a hanging Gate and may become temporarily connected through another person or a transit.

Definition

Definition describes how the defined Centers connect internally. It can suggest whether processing feels self-contained or benefits from time, movement and interaction with different people.

Single

One connected area

All defined Centers connect in one continuous network.

Split

Two areas

Two separate groups of definition may create a felt bridge theme.

Triple Split

Three areas

Different environments and people may help processing move between groups.

Quadruple Split

Four areas

A rare pattern with several internally separate groups.

No Definition

Reflector pattern

No Centers are defined; the chart is highly open to environment and transits.

Using Human Design in daily life

Begin with Type, Strategy and Authority rather than trying to memorize every Gate. Observe one real decision or recurring stress pattern at a time. Profile, Centers, Channels and Gates can be added after the basic experiment becomes concrete.

Use the system as a reflective practice in work, relationships, parenting and rest. It should not replace medical care, psychological assessment or your own judgement.

Work

Energy and pacing

Notice which tasks sustain engagement and which patterns repeatedly produce resistance.

Relationships

Difference without blame

Use chart language to observe dynamics, not to excuse behavior or rank compatibility.

Parenting

Support individual rhythms

Treat a child’s chart as a gentle observation tool rather than a limiting identity.

Wellbeing

Rest and stress awareness

Notice conditioning and recovery needs while keeping health decisions evidence-based.
